Volunteers' Week 2017 - Meet Volunteer Helen
For #VolunteersWeek2017 Volunteer Coordinator Sarah Parkes interviewed seven of the RWA's wonderful volunteers.
First up was Helen Chambers!
How long have you been a volunteer at the RWA?
Six years.
What do you enjoy most about volunteering at the RWA?
Learning about the visual arts through stewarding shows, attending curators’ briefings, and conversations with artists, Academicians and gallery visitors.
Working alongside the lovely, friendly staff.
What has been your favourite RWA exhibition?
One that was memorable was The Power of the Sea, and the accompanying symposium; the recent Angela Carter exhibition was another...
Who is your favourite artist of all time?
Not possible to choose! Matisse, Van Gogh and Michelangelo come to mind, but tomorrow I may choose differently.
What is your favourite thing to do/place to go in Bristol?
Using the Bristol ferries on a sunny day, or an evening at The Tobacco Factory or Bristol Old Vic.
And lastly, what do you do when you are not volunteering at the RWA?
I work part-time to increase access to the arts and culture for children in the care system. Other interests include theatre, music, cooking, walking, reading, being a Quaker and spending time with family and friends.

Helen was photographed by talented volunteer Mike Hale. Mike's Volunteer Project is aiming to explore the variety of volunteering opportunities in Bristol. The longer aim is to also show the diversity of volunteers.
