A message from RWA President and RWA Chair of Trustees on the death of Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth II

The Royal West of England Academy (RWA) Board, Academicians and staff are united in mourning the passing of our Royal Patron, HM Queen Elizabeth II.

Our Royal status was conferred by her grandfather, King George V, in 1913, so she has reigned for the vast majority of our existence as a Royal Academy.  She visited us in 1999, and at that time was shown plans for renovating our beautiful building, plans which finally came to fruition only this year.
We have a small display in her honour on our lower ground floor, including a painting by Jerry Hicks RWA capturing a moment during her visit to the RWA, together with a Book of Condolence, which we warmly invite visitors to contribute to.
We are honoured that HM King Charles III has been an Honorary RWA Academician since 2008, and has kindly exhibited artworks in our Annual Open Exhibition every year since then.  We look forward, with deep gratitude, to continued Royal patronage under his reign.

The President, Council and Board of Trustees of the Royal West of England Academy would like to express their deep sadness at the death of Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth II. As reigning monarch she was our Patron and she served our country with dignity and selflessness for over seventy years.

On behalf of all academicians, staff and Trustees we send our condolences to the Royal family and particularly to Honorary Royal West of England Academician, His Majesty King Charles III.
