Danny Markey (b.1965)

Pizza Hut

date unknown

oil on board

Markey paints modern landscapes using loose brushstrokes filling them with movement and life. In this painting the focus, Pizza Hut, reflects a warm and inviting atmosphere surrounded by darkness created by the natural landscape around it. Markey has used the contrast of light and dark to reveal the manmade influence over natural atmospheres. It invites us to look forward to a time when we can more freely start walking towards the bright lights in the evenings, gathering together in public places, celebrating and eating together.
