Tutor - Jemma Gunning RWA
Half-day workshop
Friday 24 October 2025, 2pm - 5pm
In this fun and informal workshop, you will have the chance to learn an exciting, traditional printmaking technique and produce several colourful prints.
Drypoint, like etching and engraving, belongs to the Intaglio family of printmaking, but is much simpler and more direct than its relatives. In drypoint the surface of the plate is scratched, gouged, punctured, scraped or abraded, but the material itself is not removed, it is just pushed to the side, forming a burr. It is this 'burr' which holds the ink, and gives a drypoint line, or area, its typical velvety appearance.
You will learn how to create lively marks using drypoint needles, drawing directly onto the surface of a plate. You'll be introduced to varying ways of adding colour and tonal ranges to your images, including inking techniques, and Chine-colle.
All materials included, come along and get inky!
Please wear clothes suitable for a studio environment and bring a bag for taking work home with you, bearing in mind it may still be wet.
