Jemma Gunning
Jemma Gunning is a Bristol-based artist and printmaker whose practice documents spaces in transition—sites that are slowly disappearing due to dereliction, climate change, or social shifts. Working primarily with traditional printmaking techniques such as etching, monotype, and lithography, Jemma explores fragile and often overlooked landscapes, capturing their histories before they are lost. Her work frequently focuses on urban ruins, post-industrial sites, and mountainous terrains shaped by natural forces, drawing attention to the beauty found within collapse and decay.
Jemma holds a Master’s degree in Multidisciplinary Printmaking and has a background in drawing, both of which continue to inform her observational and research-led approach. Her prints are rich in atmosphere and texture, often combining fieldwork with experimental mark-making techniques. She has exhibited nationally and internationally and is a Royal West of England Academician, as well as an elected member of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers. Her work is held in both public and private collections, including the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Ashmolean Museum.
Alongside her studio practice, Jemma is an experienced and passionate tutor. She co-founded the Bristol Print Collective in 2016 and regularly delivers printmaking workshops across the UK, including at Leicester Print Workshop, Spike Print Studio, and in community settings. Her teaching style is friendly, inclusive, and process-led—encouraging participants to experiment, play, and develop confidence in their own creative language.
Jemma runs regular printmaking courses and workshops from her studio at Centrespace Studios in the heart of Bristol. These sessions offer a supportive and inspiring environment for people of all abilities to explore a range of printmaking techniques including linocut, monotype, and etching.
