Alastair Flattely, Late Summer in the Severn Valley
Alastair Flattely (1922–2009)
Late Summer in the Severn Valley
Date of work unknown
oil on canvas
Purchased at the 113th Royal West of England Academy Annual Exhibition, 1965
Flattely uses oil paint on canvas to create an intricate and detailed painting. The warm colours create the atmosphere of security and an overall positive feel. Flattely’s painting technique makes it looks like each small brushstroke has been done with great care. The field in this painting stretches through the mountains and the fact that is from the summer evokes feelings of being set free much like we are being set free from isolation now.
