Over 500 contemporary artworks feature in the 172nd Annual Open from both established and emerging artists.  The works span a variety of mediums, including painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, mixed media, textile art, architecture, video and more. All artworks are available for sale.

Artists featured include pioneering textile artist Alice Kettle RWA, whose groundbreaking practice is amplifying textile art, Valda Jackson MBE RWA, whose multidisciplinary approach explores themes of migration, identity, and loss, and painter Kurt Jackson RWA, whose large-scale works explore environmental issues. 

Works have been selected for display by a panel of distinguished judges that includes artist Harold Offeh whose work explores social issues, writer David Trigg and Professor Anita Taylor. This year’s Invited Artist is Maria Lalić whose paintings explore colour, time and place and whose work can be found in major collections including Tate and the V&A.

Exhibition Ticket Prices:

  • Annual Art Pass: £18 (unlimited access for a full year)
  • Adult day ticket: £9.90 (includes optional £1 donation, eligible for gift aid)
  • Concession* day ticket: £5.45 (includes optional 55p donation, eligible for gift aid)
  • Free admission** for Friends of the RWA, RWA Art Pass Holders, under 18s, students (please bring student ID), refugees and people seeking asylum.

* Disabled people (required companion free); people on Universal Credit; Art Fund card holders
** All RWA Members (Patrons, Friends, Academicians, Artists Network); all under 18s; all FE & HE students with valid student ID; required companion for disabled people; Museums Association, AIM or SWFed members).
