Professor Paul Gough RWA presents - Banksy, cultural vandal and /or creative innovator?
This illustrated lecture will focus on Banksy as a practicing painter, but will also examine his activity as a curator, writer and filmmaker. Instead of becoming fixated on the artist’s identity or the price of the artworks, we will look at how Banksy has revolutionised the way that stencils are used, how the artworks deploy 'brandalism' to create iconic images, and have ensured that the artwork has stayed edgy and relevant.

An academic, painter, author of two books on Banksy– and a long-standing Academician at the RWA- Paul Gough is a regular media commentator on the street artist, Banksy. In 2022, a short film alleging Gough was actually the street artist went viral over TikTok, receiving more than two million views.
