Quick-Fire Collography
9 Dec 2024 | 1-day | Full day
Tutor - Luke Wade
1-day workshop
Monday 9 December 2024, 10am - 4pm
Collagraphy derives its name from the Greek koll or kolla meaning ‘glue’ and graph meaning ‘drawing’. The process was introduced in 1955 by Glen Alps, whereby materials are applied to a rigid substrate (such as paperboard or wood) to form a printing matrix. These are then inked up, (either intaglio, relief or both) and printed with the assistance of a press or by hand.
In this 1-day workshop, artist-printmaker Luke Sebastian Wade will be showing you methods by which you can use this process intuitively and with rapid results: sidestepping the typical overnight varnishing and drying time that the traditional process involves but still embracing the playful nature of collage and texture.
Found and recycled materials, paper cutting and using different surfaces to make prints will allow participants to be playful and self directed in their working as they become more familiar with the tools available.
There will also be a lot of principles common to printmaking that will come into play throughout this workshop; thinking about working in layers, stamping, the properties of ink, clever registration and techniques for handprinting as well as using a press.
All materials are provided for this workshop. Please bring an apron or wear clothes suitable for an art studio, and a plastic bag in which to take wet work home with you.
Suitable for all abilities.
