1-day workshop
Thursday 17 September, 10am - 4pm
Colour is an important feature of our world; it plays a big role in how we decorate our homes, how we create our gardens, how we dress, and the art that we like. Colour and composition are inextricably linked – the way we combine colours will affect the overall look and feel of something.
Because of this, the process of bringing colours together can sometimes be daunting. This workshop will present some of the important principles that affect the way that colour works in a composition. During the day we will explore the colour wheel, value, hue and saturation and how colours can work together in a piece of art.
Practical exercises will allow you to play with colour principles and discover how they can be used in your own work. We will create simple compositions and look at ways to manipulate harmony and contrast using colour. All materials provided, though we strongly recommend bringing your own brushes if you have them.
Please also bring a colour print of a piece of artwork (ideally A4 size or smaller) and an A4 sketchbook with white paper. You will need to bring an apron or wear clothes suitable for an art studio, and supply a bag or portfolio for taking your work home at the end of the session.
Suitable for all abilities.
All materials provided, though we recommend bringing your own brushes if you have them. Please wear clothes suitable for a painty studio environment, and sensible footwear for off-site drawing. Bring a bag or portfolio suitable for taking wet work home with you after the sessions.
