This collection showcase has been co-curated by a group of our volunteers, using the RWA’s Permanent Collection. The RWA volunteers are at the heart of the Academy. It is because of their dedication, hard work and generosity that we are able to bring exhibitions such as this to the public. The volunteer team support a variety of roles including audio descriptions, installation support and gallery stewarding. The text accompanying the artwork in this exhibition has been written by RWA volunteers.

The RWA Permanent Collection contains over 1800 artworks, dating from 1830 to the present day. Originating in 1849 from the personal collection of RWA founder, Ellen Sharples, the collection continues to grow. Each year, newly elected RWA Academicians generously donate a work to us. Other pieces of historical or artistic value can be acquired for our collection as well, ensuring that the permanent collection is reflective of our history, our present and our future.
