Nicola Turner
I was honoured to have been selected as the RWA Academy Award Winner in the RWA OPEN 2024. In April 2019 I took part in a non-user consultation at the RWA and have been excited to see its recent transformations.
Based in the South West, I am an advocate for embedding contemporary art in community, as evidenced by my involvement in Bath Art Depot and FORM-ica. Bath Art Depot, sponsored by WEEVA & VASW, hosted five community conversations including Eva de Klerk, founding director of NDSM in Amsterdam, Mansions of the Future sharing their takeover programme establishing an arts and cultural hub in Lincoln and A Particular Reality sharing their knowledge in building creative environments upon the values of equity and care, actively challenge the barriers to art and culture.
My previous work as a design consultant including on live work units, shops, urban public realms and my inaugural career as an international stage designer has given me experience and tools that have supported my artwork and also exposed me to artist led spaces around the world. I would like to become a member of the RWA to support and be supported by fellow practitioners and to work with the RWA to continue to showcase thought provoking contemporary art in the region. I have had enormous support with my practice over the last six years since graduating from my MA Fine Art. I would value being part of an artist led institution that advocates the arts and supports others.
