The Friends of the RWA Trips and Visits committee are delighted to present a Summer day in the Cotswolds with a private tour of Chavenage House and historic Cirencester
Full cost:
Friends of the RWA: £42
Non Friends: £52
What’s Included?
After a welcome coffee and biscuits we enjoy a private tour of Chavenage, an Elizabethan House in Gloucestershire, which has much to offer in terms of both historical interest and art. Its rooms house tapestries, furniture, pictures and relics of the Cromwellian period. Frequently used as a location for film and TV productions, including Poldark, Wolf Hall, Tess of the d’Urbervilles, and Rivals, Chavenage has also featured in a recent documentary series, Saving Country Houses and an earlier documentary investigating paranormal occurrences, The Curious House Guest.
From Chavenage we go on to Cirencester where there will be time to have lunch and to explore this historic town, the site of Corinium, Roman Britain’s second largest city. Strolling around the streets you will find the imposing St John the Baptist Church, the award winning Corinium Museum, the new Brewery Arts Centre, and much more.
Please note that Chavenage includes some steep stone steps and uneven floors.
