Elements! A dance workshop for young people aged 13+

The RWA are delighted to welcome South West Dance Theatre into the galleries as part of our ambitious program of events during our summer exhibition: Dance Out  

Ticket prices include 1 child and 1 adult. Adults must stay with children for the duration of the event. 

What can you expect? 

Dance is about more than getting the arms and legs in the right place. It is about a quality of movement that puts the poetry into the motion. 

This workshop will focus on how to make even simple moves sing, turning the dull into delicious, and to do that we will take inspiration from the fundamental elements on which many ancient cultures centred their ideas of how the world works: air, fire, water, earth and space.

We will learn, finesse and blend moves from a range of different dance styles from ballet to breaking, thinking through how to achieve them not just technically but in terms of the quality of movement as well. The workshop will cater to all levels of technical ability.

About the facilitator

The workshop will be led by Anna Demming Davis, currently a performer, choreographer, teacher and founding director of South West Dance Theatre, other co-leads from South West Dance Theatre's current performers to be confirmed. Classically trained, Anna often brings flavours of world dance, hip hop and pop into her work, often working closely with breakers and drawing on both her European and Caribbean background. As well as creating dance theatre, she teaches weekly Cecchetti ballet classes for a wide range of ages from toddlers to adults, as well as leading themed dance workshops.
