Drawing and painting out in the landscape are an essential part of my work, using a sketchbook to record and gather information. I make small paintings and drawings which I do usually fairly randomly, capturing the experience, examining the colour and structures of things that have taken my eye. These are often the beginning of an idea which then becomes a painting.

Back in the studio this information is developed, creating with paint, that special time, an experience affected by the weather, or the season, and the landscape, but above all the exact location and its spirit.
