Playful Gestures
20 February - 24 March 2024
THIS EXHIBITION HAS NOW CLOSED. PLEASE VIEW OUR CURRENT AND UPCOMING EXHIBITIONS.
This exhibition of expressive, abstract painting and sculpture has been created by disabled adults attending Bristol Community Links (BCL) hubs. Paintings from the RWA Collection have also been selected for this exhibition by the BCL participants.
The abstract paintings by BCL started with artist and activist Lucy Turner facilitating a series of painting workshops for participants, looking at the work of John Hoyland for inspiration. The photographs by Lisa Whiting show how much everyone enjoyed painting together. The small sculptural pieces were made with the support of BCL South’s Cathy Belcher-Kear and the RWA Learning Team.
The whole exhibition shows that these disabled adults, older people, adults living with dementia, and adults with physical and sensory impairments can make beautiful paintings, exquisite objects and make curatorial choices.
