Tutor - Luke Wade

1-day workshop

Saturday 22 June 2024, 10.30am - 4.30pm

Drypoint is from the same intaglio family of printmaking as etching, but as the name suggests there’s no ‘wet’ acid involved in making the plate: only the dry point of a needle. Therefore, it is quite a safe process but still involves all the print magic of plate-making, inking, soaking paper and using an etching press.

Across the day, students will be introduced to the fundamentals of intaglio print, such as making plates from different materials, inking, wiping and carefully registering prints. There will be plenty of opportunity for students to experiment, such as developing strategies for multi-plate printing, chine-colle (collaged tissue), and edition variable will all be explored.

All materials are provided, but please wear messy clothes as oil-based ink will be used. Students can choose to work from small photographs or other source material, providing they have flipped it.

Please bring a plastic bag or portfolio in which to take work home with you at the end of the class.
