During this course you will explore the work of three key German Expressionists from the Blue Rider Group: Gabriele Munter, Wassily Kandinsky and Franz Marc.

Known for their bold outlines and vibrant colours, this course will help you to gain confidence with using oil paint, colour and mark-making. We will look at their landscapes and still life studies, and in the third session, you will have a chance to develop your own composition inspired by their work. We will explore using a palette knife, using a coloured ground, using thin washes, building up glazes and exploring texture.

This will be a fun and experimental course where you can build confidence and develop your own style. This course is planned to coincide with the major new show coming to Tate Modern: EXPRESSIONISTS: KANDINSKY, MÜNTER AND THE BLUE RIDER 25 APRIL – 20 OCTOBER 2024

All materials provided, though we recommend bringing your own brushes if you have them. Please wear clothes suitable for a painty studio environment and bring a bag or portfolio suitable for taking wet work home with you after the sessions.

Participants must be 16 or over.

If eligible, discounts must be applied when first purchasing your class and cannot be given retrospectively. Please contact us if the discount code is not working.

Refund/transfer and Cancellation Policy: We are unable to offer full or part cash refunds, but you are eligible for an RWA gift voucher or transfer, provided you notify us more than 14 days before the start of your class with us. If we cancel a course or workshop for any reason, then participants will be offered a different date, course/workshop or RWA gift voucher.
