Workshop Programme

  • Thursday 23 July 2026, 9.30am - 12.30pm, Whirling Twirlers with Nik Ramage
We will each make lots of Whirling Twirlers, card figures with moving arms and legs, supported on batons. Each should have their best dancing shoes on and be dressed to impress. They will be animated by twisting them between your fingers. The faster you twist, the crazier the dance becomes!

  • Friday 24 July 2026, 9.30am - 12.30pm, Inspired by Degas: Dancing in Mixed Media with Catherine Knight
Inspired by Edgar Degas’ dancers, we will explore creating a base layer in acrylic and then layering more detail on top with oil pastels to create a mixed-media artwork. We will experiment with colour mixing, creating thin washes and adding drama and directional lines with oil pastel.

  • Tuesday 28 July, 2026, 9.30am - 12.30pm, Pop Up Dancers with Elena Hayward
Learn how to create dynamic pop-up art that dances off the page. Children will make moving paper designs, decorate them creatively, and experiment with classic pop-up mechanisms and movable elements.

  • Wednesday 29 July 2026, 9.30am - 12.30pm, Move, Make, Print! with Victoria Willmott
Explore playful printmaking processes, including monoprinting drawn figures, paper-cut stencils to create layered designs, and a variety of experiments to capture movement and rhythm. Children will leave with expressive prints full of energy, dance, and imagination.

About our Artists
Nik Ramage RWA is a mechanical sculptor, making odd ideas come to life with found parts and garden shed technology. He likes nothing better than drawing, playing with materials and bringing them alive in unexpected ways.

Painter Catherine Knight, based at BV Studios in Bristol, creates work distinguished by its vibrant use of colour in evocative landscapes and interiors. She has exhibited widely in both private and public gallery spaces. She has also worked with the RWA, teaching Drawing School workshops and facilitating the Tuesday Teatime Tour.

Multimedia artist Elena Hayward holds a BA (Hons) in Illustration. Her artwork is playful and energetic, with a focus on character, colour, and nature. She has worked with Dhek Bhal and Refugee Women of Bristol, as well as leading Scribble & Sketch workshops and an Abstract Painting workshop for 7–11-year-olds.

Artist educator and printmaker Victoria Willmott is co-founder of the Bristol Print Collective, which delivers printmaking classes in pop-up locations.
