Sue Pickering
After working as an Academic Psychologist for a number of years, Sue completed a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at Bristol School of Art in 2010 and has been working on her own mixed-media art practice since that time. She loves to experiment with materials and processes and to share what she learns with others. She is fascinated by colour and the role that it plays in our lives. Her background as an academic feeds into her exploration and her passion for inspiring others.
Sue is a Mixed Media Artist. Her art practice has evolved over a number of years and currently she creates abstract pieces that combine print, paint and collage. Colour, shape and texture all play a big part in her compositions. Sue takes an experimental approach to her work, remaining open to the possibilities that develop as she tries out different materials and processes. She use a range of different tools and materials, including found and recycled objects.
Sue discovered the process of monoprinting with a Gelli Plate in 2014 and has used this process extensively in her own work. As well as using this tool to create vibrant multilayered prints, she also uses it to create many of the collage papers that she uses in her collage art. She has developed an extensive repertoire of mixed-media techniques that she uses in her work. Her teaching focuses on encouraging students to understand materials and processes so that they can engage in their own creative exploration.
