Sophie Rae

Sophie Rae loves creating colourful prints by applying ink directly to the paper with a roller, and sometimes she uses stencils to help form the image. She is inspired by the natural world, and a trip to see exotic plants really makes her want to get into the studio and start creating. Her classes allow people to experiment and play with a really interesting print process that can be done at home, with spontaneity. Sophie likes the immediacy her print process allows her to create. She enjoys variety and is also found doing illustration commissions (using the process she teaches in her workshops) and facilitating community arts projects, such as the mural on Church Road in Redfield, or going into schools and colleges to teach her process to young students.

Previous workshop participants have said it’s a very relaxed session…
'I felt you were a very approachable and friendly teacher, answering my questions well and you were very helpful.'

A recent commission saw Sophie working with young people to develop illustrations/prints for a mental health website for the NHS. She also exhibits her work around Bristol and beyond and recent exhibitions have included Prema Arts, Uley; Bocabar at Paintworks; Crazy Fox, Broadmead; 123 Space, Cheltenham Road. She also has permanent work in Southmead and Cossham hospital
