Karen Edwards

Karen studied fine art at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne from 1980-1984 (under professor Norman Adams) graduating with a first class honours degree. During this time she was awarded the John Christie scholarship (1982), The Hatton Prize (1983) and the Annabel Winship Smiles travelling scholarship (1984).

Karen lives in Bristol and works from her studio in Jamaica Street. She works mainly in oils on canvas and draws inspiration from her many sketching trips which are an important part of creating a painting. All of her paintings are based on places she has visited and which she found inspiring. An ambience is created through the layers of paint recreating the special feelings and mood which captured her imagination while out sketching her subject.

Her complex skies give drama to her work culminating in brooding rain studies, bleak snow scenes or warm, balmier seascapes.
She has shown regularly at the Cube Gallery, Bristol having 3 solo shows and 2 joint exhibitions. Karen has also shown in other parts of the country taking part in art fairs and private shows across the country and in Ireland.
