Catherine Beale

Catherine Beale is a portrait painter and watercolourist who works from her hillside studio on the edge of Bath, Somerset. She specialises in larger than life watercolour head and shoulder portraits as well as landscapes full of light effects. As a former oil painter she enjoys juicy tubed paint which she combines with wet washes that she drops onto rigid board using her “gravity painting” techniques. Her love of saturated colour stems from eleven years living in Asia where colour pervaded her everyday life. Catherine is an elected member of the Society of Women Artists and she has exhibited with the Royal Watercolour Society and Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours, in the Royal West of England Academy’s summer exhibition in Bristol and in the Holburne Portrait Prize and Bath Society of Artists Annual Exhibitions.

Catherine is author of a new book 'The Innovative artist: Capturing light’ by Search Press which explains how to create radiant landscapes in watercolour.
