RWA presents an interactive and thought-provoking event focused on using creativity and environmentalism to inspire personal, social, and economic transformation.
Organized collaboratively as a part of the University of Bristol's Autumn Art Lectures and hosted by the Centre for Black Humanities, MoYah, and the RWA, this interactive event brings together prominent voices in art, environmentalism, and sustainability to explore how reconnecting with the earth can foster holistic change on both individual and community level.
The evening will feature a dynamic panel discussion followed by a Q&A session, providing participants with the opportunity to engage directly with the speakers. Afterward, breakout sessions will offer hands-on group exercises and a creative writing activity, all of which will be rooted in themes of nature, well-being, and social justice. These activities will provide practical tools for participants to reflect on and apply in their own lives, fostering personal growth and community empowerment.
Whether you're seeking to reconnect with nature, challenge existing power structures, or discover sustainable ways to create a positive impact in your community, this event is designed to inspire, empower, and equip you with practical insights.

Facilitators:
KMT is the co-founder of May Project Gardens, an award-winning grassroots organization based in London and Bristol. The project offers practical, affordable, and collaborative solutions for sustainable living, while challenging power structures that fail to serve the community's interests. By harnessing universally connecting tools—nature, food, and the creative arts—May Project Gardens empowers individuals to undergo personal transformation, leading to collective social change. With over 20 years of leading positive social change and raising awareness for a multitude of social issues through the powerful words and rhythms of Hip-Hop music, KMT demonstrates a non-exhaustive passion for the environment and conservation.
Maria Fernandez Garcia is the founder of Healing Weeds, a foraging school sharing how many edible and medicinal plants grow in urban spaces. Maria is passionate about creating spaces for everyone to both access nature and feel a sense of agency and belonging in their local environment.
MoYah is a Mozambican-born rapper, award-winning interfaith arts curator, activist, and educator. As the Southwest Manager of May Project Gardens, he also co-facilitates the innovative Hip Hop Gardens program, which blends hip-hop and permaculture principles to empower underrepresented communities. The program is built around five key modules: Wellbeing, Food Growing & Cooking, Entrepreneurship & Employability, Event Management, and Hip Hop, Social Movements & Green Structures.
This event is a part of the University of Bristol's Autumn Art Lecture Series. This year the series is organised by the Centre for Black Humanities and takes up the theme 'Creation & Liberation'. You can find further details and booking for other lectures here.
