As a Royal Academy of Art, the RWA has professional artists at its heart, with a membership of around 150 Academicians who are elected by their peers.
Academicians are artists at the forefront of their profession who are committed to contributing to the success and future of the RWA. The Academicians support the RWA's activities throughout the year and regularly show work in the galleries.
The current President is Fiona Robinson PRWA.
The process of becoming an Academician is by application and selection and is open to all, regardless of where they are based. If you are interested in applying, please see the Become an Academician page: the next deadline is Tuesday 1 June 2021 (please note that due to the circumstances this year, this is later than usual March deadline).

Annual Open Exhibitions
The RWA runs three open exhibitions: the Annual Open Exhibition, the Sculpture Open and Drawn.
These exhibitions present a diverse range of work from hundreds of exciting artists in the UK and beyond. As Bristol’s first art gallery and the UK’s only regional Royal Academy of Art, these open exhibitions reflect the RWA’s ongoing commitment to championing world-class art in the region and creating opportunities for new and emerging talent.
