Hannah Murgatroyd

Hannah Murgatroyd is a painter and draughtsman, who has been teaching drawing for over ten years since graduating from the Royal College of Art in 2005, where she won the Man Drawing Prize. From 2009 she lived in Berlin, and on returning to the UK in 2014, won the Exeter Contemporary Open. She has exhibited widely, and been awarded residencies in the UK, Germany and Italy, and currently holds a studio at Spike Island in Bristol.

Observational drawing forms a starting point for Hannah’s works, which are island spaces of the imagination, painted and drawn worlds inhabited by a cast of protagonists. These form an idiosyncratic canon of desire, whose genesis springs from a history of the body told through high art, popular culture and personal narrative.
