Sculptor Duncan Elliott joins us to discuss his involvement in the Festival in this fascinating talk which also explores the development of his artistic career working with stone. Elliott’s connection to the local limestone began in his childhood, growing up in the Mendip Hills. Since then he has developed his handling of stone, learning to appreciate the flawed individuality of this classical material in contrast with the pressurised perfection of monumental marble sculpture. His work aims to reflect a sense of humanity, finding a response to the movement inherent in stone, an urge to animate, to communicate, to influence. Elliott has exhibited throughout Bristol and has undertaken a number of private and public commissions including the work Fallen Angel for Liverpool Capital of Culture, 2008. The Festival of Stone runs 31 May – 9 June 2013.
