Drawn, the Drawing Lab and Lines in a Landscape will be accompanied by an exhibition of drawings from the RWA’s permanent collection, including works by RWA Academicians.

The RWA collection contains almost a thousand works on paper, from framed prints and watercolours to unframed sketches and drawings. The works range from loose, incomplete sketches giving the barest impression of the subject, to highly detailed finished drawings and paintings.

The works displayed reveal drawing’s versatility as both an independent art form and as the basis for developing an idea, whether the final result is a painting, print or sculpture. The works shown here have been selected to reflect the personality and variety that is inherent within a sketchbook.

Spanning the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, most of these works were commissioned or purchased from previous exhibitions at the RWA, whilst others are Diploma works gifted by new Academicians, upon being elected members. The artists on display include Bernard Dunstan RA PPRWA, Gerald Scott, Ann Christopher RA RWA, Paul Thomas RWA, Sara Dudman RWA and Laurie Steen RWA.
