Book of the moment
Kurt Jackson: Bestiary £35
The latest publication from prominent UK artist and RWA Academician, Kurt Jackson.
For this book, Jackson has returned to zoology, the subject he studied at Oxford university, to create a beautiful bestiary: a body of work about fauna.
Jackson's contemporary bestiary extends the religious medieval tradition, looking closely at both everyday and lesser-known species of birds, insects, mammals and fish in order to stimulate readers' connections with and appreciation of the world around them.
Combining stunning imagery with commentaries and poems written by the artist, the book gives fascinating insights into the working life of one of the most popular and original artists working in Britain today, and makes a perfect companion to both Kurt Jackson (2012) and Kurt Jackson Sketchbooks (2012).
The book features a forward by Lord John Krebs and an introduction by Charlotte Mullins.
Latest Publication from Lucy Willis RWA: Sunlight & Shadows in Watercolour £19.99
Need we say more than this wonderful review from Susan Barrett,
"To turn the pages of this book is to take the privileged position of a student at Lucy Willis's elbow as she travels the world. We are led on a series of delightful expeditions while she explains the processes that lie behind each painting.
Lucy is not only a highly gifted watercolourist with a light, sure touch but also a generous teacher, passing on methods she has perfected over the years. She writes simply and clearly about what is not at all simple and clear – to me, at any rate, a fan rather than an artist. Every page communicates her delight in capturing the fleeting effects of sun and shade on a scene, and includes her stringent analysis of the way she achieves what seems effortless.
Read the book as a non-practising admirer or as a student keen to follow her step-by-step guide to the ways of transmitting onto paper the scene in front of you. Whatever your approach, this is an enchanting book for everyone interested in learning about the technical practicalities that lie behind the magic of Lucy Willis's watercolours."

We are delighted to be featuring the work of Bristol Illustrator, Fiona Clabon. Fiona's vibrant work brings colour to the RWA shop for the 163rd Annual Open Exhibition, here's what Fiona has to say about her work:
"I create colourful and playful collages using hand-textured, cut paper. I enjoy the simplicity of shapes and contrasting colours as well as combining cutting by hand with the flexibility that working digitally provides."
