New Partnership Project Between The RWA and Bordeaux Quay

‘Second Helping’
An exhibition of ‘selected but not hung’ works from the RWA’s
155th Autumn Exhibition at Bordeaux Quay Restaurant (1st floor)
13th November 2007 - 31st January 2008
Bordeaux Quay
V-Shed
Canons Way
Bristol
BS1 5UH

This year, for the first time, the Royal West of England Academy is teaming up with another venue in the city, Bordeaux Quay, to expand the display of art works which have been selected for the Autumn Exhibition but could not be placed within the RWA galleries. This additional selection has been made by freelance curator,
Katharine Cockshaw BA MA.

Bordeaux Quay is situated on the harbourside opposite the Arnolfini. The converted warehouse building offers a fine dining restaurant, brasserie, bar and cookery school. When it opened a year ago, proprietor
Barny Haughton appointed Katharine to develop and curate an ongoing programme of art exhibitions over both floors of the building. The vast spaces which the building affords, and the overwhelming sense of natural light which pervades the first floor dining room and glass topped atrium make Bordeaux Quay an excellent venue for displaying art in Bristol.

Katharine has worked with some of the best known museums and galleries in the UK, developing and curating exhibitions and managing public art collections. She has worked with Turner Prize winners and nominees, and has independently curated exhibitions of work by Royal Academicians at the Royal Academy, London and regional galleries. Katharine is now Bristol-based, working freelance to achieve exposure for professional artists.
I am very pleased about this innovative partnership project, which gives artists whose works have been selected but not hung an opportunity to exhibit in Bristol in a setting that is becoming well known for showing visual art work. Second Helping features works by 39 artists and we are pleased to be able to provide this additional boost to the artists through this partnership with Bordeaux Quay.
Dee Smart, Chief Executive of the RWA
All works are for sale and the exhibition is free for public viewing.

Bordeaux Quay is open every day. For opening times and further details, see www.bordeaux-quay.co.uk.
