Since leaving university in 1988, having gained his degree in Fine Art, Justin has worked solely as an artist. His studio and home is in Dorset where the landscape and the coast continue to have a deep influence on his painting. During this time Justin has exhibited throughout the U.K. and abroad, including Royal Academy Summer exhibitions and the RWA Autumn and Open Painting exhibitions where he won a prize in 2005 and Highly Commended in 2010.Justin regularly exhibits at the following galleries. Innocent Fine Art (Bristol), Sarah Wiseman Gallery (Oxford), Rostra Gallery (Bath), The New Ashgate Gallery (Farnham, Surrey), White Space Gallery (Totnes, Devon). Justin also exhibits at other Galleries, both commercial and public, most recently at places such as; The Dorset County Museum, Bournemouth University and the De Morgan Centre, London. “My paintings are essentially studio paintings which begin life outside in the landscape. I often start with places that I know really well. Inspiration comes from everything I see and feel; When painting I allow these things to come together in an intuitive way so that they convey something about the place that maybe speaks of it’s past, or simply holds the sense of being there. Increasingly though, my paintings have been more about memory. Particularly when evoking a sense of something barely remembered, something almost lost but kept in indefinite images, in a similar way that a landscape itself becomes barely perceptible as day turns to night.”
