RWA Open Exhibitions
The Royal West of England Academy has two open exhibitions
a year. The first is an exhibition rotating the disciplines of sculpture,
painting, photography and printmaking. It attracts contemporary artists
both nationally and internationally. The second open exhibition, which is
held annually, is the Autumn Exhibition. It has been in existence for over
150 years, the 156th being the most recent. The Autumn Exhibition is a mixed
discipline exhibition, including disciplines such as painting, printmaking,
photography, sculpture and architecture. It attracts artists both regionally
and nationally.

Online Submissions
The RWA is now offering the chance to submit artworks for all
open exhibitions online. If you choose to submit in this way it will be
significantly cheaper, and quicker.
This process is simple:
- Go to the link via the red 'Online
Submission' button
- Create an artist profile
- Submit details of your works
- Pay online for less
- Bring your works in on hand in day and be fast-tracked
through the process
- Receive your results quicker via email
If you would still like to submit manually
please send a SAE to the RWA marked ‘Open Exhibition'.
You will then receive a submission pack in the post.
The Open Painting exhibition seeks
to provide a showcase for the best of contemporary painting. On show
will be a selection made by a committee of independent figures from
the art world, alongside a selection of works from invited artists
including Saied Dai,
Eileen Cooper RA
and David Rayson
(Royal College of Art).
| Price: £12 per work to
submit online, £15 to submit manually |
|
The selection committee will include David
Buckman (writer and author of 'Artists
in Britain since 1945'), Matthew
Hall (London gallery owner specialising
in English and Scottish contemporary art), Saied
Dai (artist), David Rayson (Head of Painting
at Royal College of Art), Janette
Kerr RWA (artist, and Visiting Research Fellow, University
of the West of England).and Simon Quadrat
RWA (RWA Artist Chairman).
Artists submitting works within the open submission will be eligible
for awards worth over £8000.
We have now launched an online
system for submitting artworks. All details can be entered and
conveniently paid for online. You will be able to submit works and
print your own labels out. This means that on hand in day all you
will need to do is hand in your works to be checked by a member of
staff with a bar-code reader. This will make things faster, easier
and cheaper for everyone.
If you would prefer to do a manual hand in and would like to receive
a submission pack in the post please send and SAE to the RWA marked
‘Open Painting’
- you will then receive a submission pack in the post.

RWA Autumn Exhibition
The Autumn Exhibition is an annual open exhibition for painting, printmaking,
sculpture, photography and architecture. The success of submission is not
dependent on the style or content but quality. The RWA expects to represent
a broad range of contemporary fine art produced in recent years, e.g. within
the last five years, by both Academicians and other artists.
Works for exhibition will be chosen and hung by a panel of Academicians
(appointed by the RWA Council), whose decision is final and binding. The
selection panel changes yearly and open submissions are judged anonymously.
Artists will be informed of the panel’s decision by post. Results
will not be given out by telephone before this.
