These were taken on the night of the official lighting of the tower on a perminant basis. Something like £750,000 was spent on cleaning it and restoration works. Amongst others, I asked for it to be illuminated as it repesents such an iconic building in Bristol during the day. One of Bristol's most photographed structures?? For 28 years I worked at the University Physics Dept as A Technician and Health And Safety Advisor, so came to know the tower from many angles and from it's many problems, before restoration.

At night, visitors or tourists, could not see it, as the top of Park Street is very dark, and not particularly well lit. Now, it forms an impressive sight from any point in the City, and up close, it really looks stunning I think?? Also the street lighting is much improved with it switched on.

The lights were switched on by Harry Patch, the UK's oldest surviour of the First World war (he's over 100 years old now), he was a plumber on site working on the tower when it was first built. So that is some background to the shots. They attempt to reflect the impact the lighting has up close, and to Park Street in general.
