What do you do at Night?
March 22nd - May 11th 2008
Local people are being offered an opportunity to take part in one of the most prestigious exhibitions ever staged by the Royal West of England Academy in Bristol.

Night: A Time Between will be the first exhibition of its kind in the city and will combine internationally renowned, contemporary artists with historical works from national collections, as well as offering a unique chance for visitors to get involved.

On display in the galleries will be important works by contemporary artists who all explore and respond to the human association with nocturnal worlds through photography, painting, installation and drawing. Work ranges from the romantic landscape photographs by Darren Almond with their conscious references to Turner and Constable, to the neon-lit urban sprawls of Kim Seung Yeon’s mezzotints, and Anthony Shapland’s intriguing films examining the twilight uncertainty of the city.

Other major artists involved include Henry Bond, Susan Derges, Dan Holdsworth and Reece Jones. To provide a historical context visitors will be delighted by 17th-19th century works from the Royal Scottish Academy, the Holburne Museum in Bath and private collections. These include works by Samuel Palmer, Henry Pether and other artists who have not been seen in Bristol before.

For the first time ever the RWA are offering the chance for visitors to take part in the exhibition. In a partnership project with the University of the West of England, the RWA is asking people to send in their own thoughts, artworks, poetry or photographs to:
