Margaret Gregory studied at the Guildhall School of Music and from 1956 to 1975 sang in the chorus at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. From 1975 she has lived and painted in Bristol and has exhibited at the RWA from 1980.

In 1992 and 1994 she showed at the Cleveland Bridge Gallery in Bath and 1998 at the Chapel Row Gallery in Bath. In the Spring of 2000 her work was part of an exhibition at the Art Garden Gallery in Redland, Bristol. In 2001 her paintings were included in a group show at the Morton Street Gallery in Pimlico, London.

When commenting on significant influences on her work, she names:

'..the rural English countryside and artists such as Samuel Palmer and Graham Sutherland.' .

She further acknowledges that she is much affected by the work of Odilon Redon, Giorgio Morandi, Casper David Friederich, Stanley Spencer, Sidney Nolan and Arthur Boyd.
