Ideal for families of all ages and abilities Scribble and Sketch offers a morning of fun and informal drawing workshops and exercises, led by Bristol Drawing Club founder and artist Anouk Mercier. Activities are designed for parents and children to take part in together, in a lively and relaxed environment, or simply take advantage of the materials to get creative. Everyone is welcome! Book in advance or just drop in on the day and join in (space permitting). Free with exhibition entry (children must be accompanied by an adult).
Children's Storytime in the RWA galleries

The RWA is delighted to announce that we have received an Arts Council England grant which has allowed us to buy a Children's Arts Trolley and has enabled us to start storytime sessions aswell.
Storytime takes place in the RWA gallery itself, we sit and talk a little bit about one of the exhibition pictures and then the story teller will read from a selection of story books. As Scribble and Sketch runs on the same saturday this is an ideal for any siblings who would prefer to listen to a story than join in the drawing. Suitable for all ages, all children must be accompanied by an adult.

Back from the Front: Perceptive Block Printing Workshop

This is a drop-in session – come along anytime between 11am and 2.30pm. (Please note: we have limited space available in our studio, so places cannot always be guaranteed.)
Join us as we take inspiration from the Brothers in Art and Shock and Awe exhibitions, creating 3D landscapes, still life arrangements and complementary block prints. Participants are invited to bring their own photographs of places, people or objects to help inspire their work.

Eden 4 are coming to the RWA!

Eden 4 are a recently formed artist collective comprising four emerging female artists based in the South West. Thanks to funding from 02 they are able to run a series of FREE children’s art-making workshops at RWA, inspired by the Back from the Front exhibition.

The Art Trolley
The trolley is now available at anytime for families visiting the gallery offering a variety of games, drawing equipment and magnifiers to help entertain younger ones as you all tour the exhibition.

Make your own Marvellous, Monstrous Characters! With Sarah Smith

Professional children’s book author-illustrator, Sarah Smith, will guide you through the process of creating a unique story character. Through drawing games you will create a range of characters, choosing one to develop into a final illustration, using a range of art materials, from inks to collage.
Secret Portraits with Katie May Green

Do you have a secret side to your personality?! Join children’s book author-illustrator Katie May Green for a portrait workshop with a difference. Create your own double sided self-portraits, capturing your best and worst sides!
As part of this workshop, Katie will be reading from her new book Seen and Not Heard, published by Walker Books in October this year.
