Colin Giffard studied architecture at Cambridge University and then later continued his studies at the University of London. He went on to become an Associate Member of the Royal Institute of British Architects.

In the years after the Second World War, he took classes at the then Bath Academy of Arts where he worked as a helper to Peter Potworowski who he would later acknowledge was to be a great inspiration to him. Colin Giffard taught evening classes at Bath Academy of Art for 19 years.

A regular exhibitor at the RWA for many years, Colin passed away in February of 2005.
