Gareth Edwards has been painting since 1984, one week exactly after finishing his BA Art History studies at London University. He went on to study at Goldsmiths College gaining a postgraduate ATC qualification.

After several years of exhibiting independently in London, Edwards received representation from the Hart Gallery and as a consequence has exhibited with them since 1998 including seven one person shows and many group exhibitions, both in London and abroad, including the Geneva Arts Fairs

Since leaving London for Cornwall in 2000 with his wife and two young daughters Gareth has been made a member of the Newlyn Society of Artists and subsequently been selected for exhibitions at the Newlyn Gallery on a regular basis especially in the well-known “Critics Choice” series. He is also represented in Cornwall by the Lemon Street Gallery in Truro with whom he has had a one person show of sculpture in 2004 and will be having a major one person show of paintings in June 2007. In 2006 the Lemon Street Gallery successfully represented Gareth Edwards at the Miami Art Fair.

In 2004 Gareth Edwards won the National Maritime Museum’s annual Art’s Bursary at the end of which he exhibited a one person installation of paintings and sound at the Museum. This exhibition further enabled him to win an Arts Council award for the production of an accompanying catalogue.

For several years concurrently Gareth has been selected for the RWA’s annual Autumn Open Exhibition and went on to become an RWA Academician.

Although Cornwall has long been established as an inspiration to artists drawn to its much admired light quality and natural beauty – it is not these aspects exclusively that inform his practice, more it is the very nature of relationships and a continuing research into that enormous field of study both in abstract and semi-figurative idioms.

Gareth Edwards' work will shortly appear as part of Peter Davies’ new updated version of contemporary painters in St. Ives. He has had three catalogues published in 2004, 2005, 2006.
