I respond to the transient effects of the color, light and atmosphere that surrounds me. The broadest theme of landscape is made up of the sum parts: paint, gesture, texture, mark, sound. Time brings about changes, alterations, totally new directions, or destruction and the need to begin again. The absence of people, places and things enables me to concentrate on the Above and Below. I strive to work intuitively and without preconception, allowing one stroke to lead to the next until an image asserts itself.
