Sophie Rae
Sophie Rae is an artist who utilises print and paint processes. Mostly separately, but combining them is on the cards for the future – once she’s got more time on her hands and both her little boys are in school. She’s a mural artist and has painted walls across Bristol, London and various places in between. In both processes she loves working with large botanical shapes and playing with the way they fit together or overlap, creating different colours, translucency or depth. Here at the RWA she loves to share her low tech, diy print process with students. She loves the freedom it affords her, in that it can be accessed immediately, without needing to be done in a print studio, rather just on a table at home.
Her classes allow people to experiment and play with spontaneity and the materials. Working with their flow, with support and guidance along the way. Sophie also likes to host community workshops as well as working on private and commercial mural projects.
Previous workshop participants have said it’s a very relaxed session…
'I felt you were a very approachable and friendly teacher, answering my questions well and you were very helpful.'

A recent commission saw Sophie working with a young offender at a children’s secure unit in Bristol, painting a mural in the visitor room.
She has exhibited her work around Bristol and beyond, including at Prema Arts, Uley; Bocabar at Paintworks; Crazy Fox, Broadmead; 123 Space, Cheltenham Road. She also has permanent work in Southmead and Cossham hospital.
