Richard Anderton completed his BA (Hons) in Fine Art at Bristol Polytechnic in 1970 he then went on to complete his MA at the Royal College of Art in the Printmaking Department in 1973. He was a Visiting Lecturer at Maidstone College of Art, Camberwell and Wimbledon College of Art as well as Bristol Polytechnic when in 1975 he became a Part-time Lecturer at the Bristol Polytechnic School of Adult Art Studies. He was also an Associate Lecturer in Fine Art Printmaking at the Faculty of Art, Media and Design. He had also been a Visiting Lecturer in the USA in 1998 and 1999 at the University of Southern Illinois, the University of Indiana and Savannah College of Art and Design. He is currently a Member of the Senior Management Group, a Member of the AP & QC, Chair of the Design Field Management Committee and a Member of the Faculty Board at the University West of England, Faculty of Art, Media and Design.

He has published several articles and has been involved in numerous publications. In 1995 he collaborated with Ian McCullough and Paul Gough on The Millennium Bestiary published by the Print Centre at the Bristol School of Art, Media and Design. He produced the Catalogue A Decade of Fine Printmaking in 1996, also published by the Print Centre. In 1998 he was the organiser of three seminars hosted by AKI, Enschede, Holland that disseminated information concerning water based screen printing to 45 members of staff from Dutch and German Universities. In 1999 he was awarded an AHRB grant to research into sixteenth century German Chiaroscuro woodcut printing and its relationship to Helio relief printing. The following year he was the invited artist to Chongquing Printmaking Festival in Sichuan, China where he researched into a comparative study between Chinese and European woodcut printing. In 2001 he gave a lecture at the Southern Graphics Council Conference at the University of Texas on the sixteenth century journeyman printmaker. These are just a few of his high profile involvements with Printmaking at an International level.

Richard Anderton has had his work exhibited at numerous venues and since 1986 has been the organiser and an exhibitor each year of the Faculty of Art, Media and Design’s Miniature Print Exhibition. He has had his work shown at the Royal Academy in London, the Mall Galleries, the Victoria & Albert Museum, the Bankside Gallery and several University Art Galleries in the USA. He also showed work in the International Print Triennial, Kanagawa, Japan in 2001 and has also exhibited several pieces of work at the Royal West of England Academy to which he was elected as an academician in 2003.
