Ann Christopher studied at Harrow School of Art and later at West of England college of Art as an undergraduate. Describing her work she comments: 'It is quite usual for my sculptures to be cast or fabricated from castings….sometimes then partially machined, sometimes lengths of stainless steel are precisely set into them. Pieces like my sculptures in corten are again a combination of engineered precision and shaped and hand worked areas. The sources of my sculptures derive from a combination of multi images stored in my subconscious which then emerge apparently at random. My wish is to capture the ephemeral quality of the lines and shadows that pass in front of my eyes and cross my mind'. Her work is included in numerous collections in the U.K. and U.S.A. She has also received several corporate and private commissions over the past twenty-five years. Bath City Council, Marsh Mills, Plymouth, St Peter's Hospital, Bristol and Portmarine, Portishead are some of the locations where her work can be found. Notable collections hold examples of her work including the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, Swansea, the City of Bristol Museum and Art Gallery, Contemporary Arts Society and the Royal Academy in London. In 1994 she was awarded the Royal Society of Sculptors Silver Medal for Sculpture of Outstanding Merit. Solo exhibitions in the 1990's were held at the Redfern Gallery, London, Courcoux and Courcoux, Stockbridge and the Royal West of England Academy. Since 1972 she has shown regularly at the Royal Academy, Redfern Gallery, Royal College of Art amongst a host of other venues in the U.K. and abroad. Anne Christopher currently has sculpture on exhibition in Jubilee Park, Canary Wharf, London until June 4th 2004 - as the work is outdoors it is open to the public at any time.
