RWA Coronavirus Update

Update - Tuesday 30 June 2020

We are making plans - with the safety of our visitors, volunteers and staff in mind - to be able to re-open when we can safely do so and look forward to welcoming you then.  Sign up to our newsletter to be first to hear updates.

In the light of the COVID-19 pandemic and the restrictions now in place, we have taken the difficult decision that we must close the RWA to the public.

As you’ll appreciate, we haven’t taken this decision lightly, but need to take this step in the interests of our visitors, staff and volunteers.

As an independent charity and dependent on the income from ticket sales and other activities, this will be an incredibly difficult time for us. We have negligible unrestricted reserves to fall back on and receive just £12,000 a year in public subsidy (a small grant from Bristol City Council).

We need to raise at least £850,000 each year, including from admission tickets, just to maintain this beautiful building and use it to enable everyone to experience great art here in Bristol.

Over the coming days and weeks, we will be looking at ways in which we can continue – online - to inspire people with art and creativity. This will include our ever-popular Secret Postcard Auction, which will be online only this year (details to follow).

In the meantime, we would be incredibly grateful if you could consider making a general donation to help us survive. You can make a donation here, or you can commit to supporting us once we reopen by buying an RWA Gift Voucher here.

Thank you to all, including our Friends and Patrons who so generously support our work – we hope to re-open and welcome you all back as soon as it is safe to do so.

Alison Bevan
Director, RWA

Existing Bookings

If you have made a booking for an event in March or April, our team will be in touch to discuss rescheduling and the potential to transfer tickets to future dates. Please bear with us as this is an extremely busy time, and keep an eye on your email for updates.

If we have to cancel an event you have booked tickets for, we will be in touch to arrange a refund. As an independent charity, dependent on the income from ticket sales and other activities, this will be an incredibly difficult time for us. We are inviting our visitors to consider donating the value of purchased tickets to us, so that we can survive this crisis.

If you are able to consider an additional donation to help us, you can do so by clicking here.
