Balloon Fiesta
Although this engraving of balloons has every connection with Bristol - there were several balloons from Bristol, it was, infact, inspired by a balloon fiesta in Alberquerque. It expresses the joyful rising of balloons, popping up over a huge stretch of flat desert between two mountain ridges which is an aid to the up draughts.

The enthusiasm of the huge crowd mingling with the balloons, guy ropes and balloonists was infectious. The composition is created from many quick sketches done on the spot, engraved on boxwood and printed on damped Zerkall paper.
