Autumn Still Life
This painting
‘Autumn Still Life’, made with mixed water based media on prepared card, is one of a series of works based upon fruit and found objects. It is painted more freely than most of the other works within the series. These other works tend to be more linear and geometric in content. However, in this particular painting, the rounded mellow fruits gently draw one’s eye in and around the other forms, exploring each one in turn, their colour and shape, to give a warm, satisfying and calm composition.

The whole series was based upon different approaches and discoveries within the 'Still Life' concept. It was then expanded, simplified and abstracted toward the relationship between 'Still Life/Landscape' and 'Coast'. During this thought and working process, and as the series of works evolved, much inspiration was drawn from the landscape and coast of Dorset, Devon and Cornwall, and from other artists: Peter Lanyon, Barbara Hepworth, Ben Nicholson and others.

‘Autumn Still Life’ was painted specifically for the ‘RWA 7 Academicians Exhibition’ in 1995.
