Fish and Fowl
Born in Scotland in 1924, James Martin graduated in Sculpture from the Edinburgh College of Art in the summer of 1949. He then went on to teach sculpture at Cheltenham School of Art from 1950 to 1959.

Following on from Cheltenham, he went on to became the Principal of Canterbury College of Art from 1960 to 1964 and then thereafter the Principal of Gloucestershire College of Art and Design from 1974 to 1981.

James Martin showed paintings and sculptures, often in mixed media and with a humourous thread running through the subject matter at the Royal Scottish Academy, the Royal Academy and also at the Royal West of England Academy from the mid 1960's onward.

James Martin died in December 2006
