River Avon Mud on River Avon Driftwood
This is a ‘local’ work, collected from a favoured spot: the high tide mark on the south bank of the Avon near the Suspension Bridge, and a stone’s throw from my birthplace. It is also next to Leigh Woods, where I collected the sticks for my first exhibition in Düsseldorf in 1968. First I painted a black line onto the wood, then made a fingerprint drawing using mud from the river.
