Whishaw Title Painting with Lead Pellets Date 1990's object Painting Media acrylic Size 46 x 56cm Ref 806 One of three purchased from the artist’s one-man show at the RWA in 1993 for the collection Other websites featuring this artist's work www.rwa.org.uk/memfrm.htm www.anthonywhishaw.com Painting with Lead Pellets This painting is one from a series of ten that has marks made by firing an airgun at a rectangle of wood/board/ply from a distance of about ten metres. The idea for this series was about an aspect of drawing which is to do with positioning. Pellet holes, or the pellets themselves stuck in the surface, are often intermingled with their illusionistic depictions. Each work has its own subplot, .i.e. taking aim, the erratic movement of the rifle whilst aiming (resulting in a Cubist-like multiple image). In this work it is a cascade of pellet marks flowing out of the bull’s eye. All works are acrylic, collage and holes. They have no reference to war or to violence; instead, they are about visual play and were very enjoyable to make. back |
