Ring Tailed Lemur
The ‘Ring Tailed Lemur’ is a monoprint form a series of seven. The image is based on a coloured pencil drawing I made at Marwell zoo in 1996. I was there as an artist in residence during the making of John Cleese’s film ‘Fierce Creatures’.

The process I used was to paint the image onto an old, used etching plate using brushed and printing ink. The white areas of the image were left bare to give maximum brightness, which was the white of the paper. The plate was then passed through my etching press with damp paper on top, as I would print an etching. Once the print was taken off the plate, a ghost of the image remained over which I could paint the next in the series. The process was repeated seven times to give similar, but not identical, prints.
