He studied at the Central School of Arts and Crafts and then later at the Royal College of Art. He was primarily known as a landscape and architectural painter, though occasional portraits and still lives figure in his ouvre. Lines moved to the West Country in the mid 1930's after a time primarily engaged in architectural studies in Tunbridge Wells, when a deeper interest in the rural landscape began to inform his thinking - he began to paint the countryside of Wiltshire and Gloucestershire, including several noted studies of Tintern Abbey, as well as a series of portriats of the Artistic friends he made. His works are held in several public collections in the region. Vincent Lines died in 1968. back |
